Australian regulator grants interim approval for Virgin Australia, Skywest alliance

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has granted interim approval for a proposed corporate alliance between Virgin Australia (DJ) and Perth-based Skywest Airlines (XR).
Under the alliance, the two airlines will offer bundled air passenger transport services to corporate customers seeking integrated charter, domestic and international services.
ACCC chairman Rod Sims said the alliance is unlikely to result in permanent changes to relevant markets.
"It will only affect corporate customers who have the option not to acquire the integrated air services package from Virgin and Skywest if they do not consider there is any benefit to them," Sims said.
The alliance is a further link between the two airlines, which started with codeshares in 2009 and developed into a 10-year strategic and operational alliance providing regional service to Australia .
As part of that deal, XR is operating DJ-branded ATR-72s to new and existing destinations around Australia .
