Pegasus Airlines, which added lots of new international flights to its network in 2011, has now launched flights to Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest city.
Flights to Almaty will run on Mondays and Thursdays from Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen airport at 19.30, returning on Tuesdays and Fridays from Almaty at 05.50.
Kazakhstan's old capital and the country's most important city, Almaty is also a great ski destination giving those looking for a new and alternative skiing destination with Pegasus. Almaty, which hosted the 2011 Asian Winter Games, promises to give winter holidaymakers the experience of a lifetime with its outdoor Medeu olympic ice-skating rink, the highest skating rink in the world at 1691 metres, and the skiing pistes of the Chimbulak, Ak-Bulak and Tabagan resorts providing heights of up to 3163 metres above sea level.
The Big Almaty Lake and Charyn Canyon will likewise wow lovers of trekking and climbing, both located in spectacular national parks, with the former also a magnet for bird-watchers.
