A German court will not allow air traffic controllers to join the Frankfurt Airport (FRA) apron workers in a solidarity strike. The GdF union urged control tower staff Tuesday to join walkouts, which would have brought the airport to a complete standstill.
Walkouts by 190 apron workers over pay have canceled around 1,400 flights, with a further 200 expected Tuesday, about 140 of them operated by Lufthansa. Each day of strikes costs Fraport around €1 million ($1.34 million) in lost revenue.
Berlin airports Tegel and Schoenefeld could also announce wildcat strikes. Union Verdi said it is planning action on short notice within days. Talks concerning additional payment for 1,500 employees of Globeground Berlin have not been successful.
