Garuda eyes reopening Auckland flights

Garuda Indonesia (GA) and Auckland International (AKL) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore the reopening of direct service from Indonesia to AKL. According to the MOU, GA will launch flights to the airport when market conditions and aircraft availability make it feasible.
The agreement was inked Monday during New Zealand Prime Minister John Key’s trade mission to Indonesia. One of the goals of the trip was to step up cooperation between the two nations in the aviation sector.
Currently, there are no flights linking Indonesia and New Zealand. However, Air New Zealand (NZ) is scheduled to begin seasonal, twice weekly flights to Bali in June.
“I was pleased to learn that Air New Zealand will be restarting a service between Auckland and Bali this year,” Key said in his blog. “And I’m delighted to hear that Air New Zealand is exploring options for collaboration with Garuda Indonesia ... New Zealand can help Indonesia build and run airports, and in general to improve its air connectivity.”

  1. You want to know what its like to be on a plane for 22 hours? Sit in a chair, squeeze your head as hard as you can, don’t stop, then take a paper bag and put it over your mouth and nose and breath your own air over and over and over.
