Regulators green light Jetstar Japan AOC; will launch in July

New Qantas Group (QF) subsidiary low-cost carrier (LCC) Jetstar Japan has received its Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) from Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, clearing the way for the carrier to begin domestic commercial services July 3 from a Tokyo Narita (NRT) base.
“This approval means we’re on track to start flying five months ahead of schedule, making it easier for people in Tokyo, Okinawa, Osaka, Sapporo and Fukuoka to connect,” said CEO Miyuki Suzuki in a statement.
“The Air Operator’s Certificate signifies approval of Jetstar’s operating policies and procedures to deliver domestic flights in Japan. It includes the airline’s approach to cabin services, ground operations, engineering, safety and customer service,” the carrier said.
According to e-TravelBlackboardasia.com, short-haul international flights will be added next year. Jetstar Japan is now preparing for proving flights, which are expected to take place in May, according to the carrier.
The LCC is a partnership between QF, Japan Airlines and Mitsubishi Corp. Last year, QF finalized a contract for 110 Airbus A320 family aircraft that included units designated for Jetstar Japan.
