Transaero reverses losses in 1Q

Russian Transaero Airline (UN) reported first-quarter net income of RUB15 million ($508,000), reversed from a net loss of RUB381 million ($12.9 million) in the year-ago period. The airline said the results were due to more efficient aircraft that were added last year and higher fleet utilization level.
Revenue rose 26% to RUB17.5 billion ($592.78 million).
Traffic rose 38% to 1.77 million passengers, RPKs increased 28% to 8.5 billion.
UN, Russia’s second largest carrier, has a fleet of 77 aircraft, comprising 19 Boeing 747s, 13 777s, 14 767s, 28 737s and three Tupolev Tu-214s. It is the only carrier in the country that operates 747s.
