Frankfurt Airport (FRA) operator Fraport confirmed Sunday the strike of 200 apron workers, represented by the GdF union, will continue into Monday for 24 hours. GdF said the strike will take place from 5 a.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Tuesday and the union is ready to continue the strike action for several weeks.
Fraport has implemented emergency plans for Monday and said FRA will be able to operate at least half of about 1,300 flights.
Lufthansa (LH) expects to cancel about 200 flights Monday, Reuters reported.
Fraport reported that nearly 500 flights scheduled for Thursday and Friday at FRA were canceled.
A Lufthansa spokesperson confirmed to on Friday the carrier had to cancel about 250 flights.
Fraport said last week’s strikes have cost the company up to €4 million. LH predicts a loss of turnover for both days to be €40 million.
Fraport said earlier it was willing to return to the negotiating table and is waiting for the possibility of more talks. Fraport has said the demands for pay increases of up to 70% are "irresponsible."
