Dubai’s dedicated Emirates A380 terminal to open in 2013

Emirates Airline’s (EK) dedicated Airbus A380 terminal at Dubai International (DXB) will open Jan. 1, 2013, Executive VP-passenger sales Thierry Antinori confirmed to.
“At this new facility we can offer 20 A380 parking positions,” Antinori said. Emirates will take delivery of 11 A380s and 20 Boeing 777-300ERs this year. The carrier operates 170 widebody aircraft.
“Dubai and the Middle East will be the center of aviation in the future,” Antinori said. “Our infrastructure is better than, for example, in Europe, also our quality of the fleet. Within eight hours’ flying time, we [can] reach two-thirds of the worldwide public.”
All markets are growing, but he expects growth in Europe to slow due to the European Union’s Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). “The ETS system will cost Emirates about €40 million ($53 million) annually,” he said. Another burden is fuel costs, “which increased in the last year by €1.2 billion,” Antinori said, adding that EK expects another 20% passenger increase this year compared to 2011.
