747-8 shows strong performance

Boeing’s 747-8 has so far exceeded Boeing’s performance expectations. “[It’s] better than we targeted,” Boeing CAS 747-8 support and services Leslie Lauer told at the Aviation Week MRO Americas conference in Dallas.
Boeing has so far delivered 15—one VIP configuration and 14 freighters—of the type.
“We set those targets based on previous entries into service. In Boeing we tend to be a little bit conservative in our approach in terms of we expect the best, and plan for anything and everything. It has worked out better than we anticipated based on previous entries into service.”
She told a Thursday panel, “Component removals have been less than half of what we targeted as a potential.”
Lufthansa’s passenger 747-8 will be delivered “very soon,” Lauer said, and will be the first of the type to enter services as a revenue commercial aircraft.
Approximately 70% of the 747-8’s structure is new, compared to the 747-400. It is operating at 63 airports around the world, and, after meeting with over 80 different civil aviation areas of the world, Boeing last week gained approval for 747-8 operations from the 200th airport. It so far has flown 15,000 hrs. and has completed 2,800 flights.
