Egypt's Midwest Airlines has awarded an MRO contract to the Air France-KLM joint venture AFI KLM E&M for the long term engine support on the the CFM56-7 engines equipping the airline's two 737NG aircraft.
The agreement covers shop visits and the supply of spare engines.
and is the first time that AFI KLM E&M has worked with Midwest Airlines.
Founded in 1997 with a fleet initially comprising two Airbus A310s, Midwest Airlines is based in Cairo. After discontinuing operations in 2004, it was officially sold in May 2009 but following a restructuring and a reorganisation which begun in September 2009 the airline was able to resume operations. Since then it has operated charter flights, mainly between Egypt and Europe. Its two 737-800s are currently operated in Pakistan under an ACMI wet lease to Shaheen Air..
Rob Pruim, AFI KLM E&M vice president sales said he is thrilled with this agreement, saying that it “enables AFI KLM E&M to gain a bigger foothold in this region, and to achieve greater coverage of Egypt, with its scheduled and/or charter airlines. As an MRO service provider backed by an airline operating large numbers of 737NG aircraft, AFI KLM E&M has a vast amount of experience on this product and can offer high value-added services to its Egyptian client.”
AFI KLM E&M were an exhibitor at MRO Middle East where it had been promoting the extent of its logistics network and its ability to design and deliver solutions tailored to the specific needs of carriers at lower cost
Nathan Smith, Midwest Airlines head of maintenance & engineering, said “ I am convinced that AFI KLM E&M will contribute significantly to the increased safety and operational availability of our aircraft.”
