Russia FAS: Rosaviatsia illegally withdrew Transaero’s rights

The Russian Commission of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) said that the Federal Air Transport Agency Rosaviatsia violated competition law when it withdrew Transaero’s (UN) permission to operate charter service from Moscow (DME) to Rome (FCO), Milan (MXP) and Venice (VCE), according to a statement on the FAS website.
In October 2011, Rosaviatsia approved UN to fly from DME to three Italian cities during the New Year holidays but later aviation authorities reversed this decision though the carrier had already started to sell tickets.
Rosaviatsia said it will litigate the decision as soon as it gets the official statement from FAS. A representative said that FAS made a decision without taking into consideration the Russian-Italian bilateral agreement conditions. UN did not comment on the statements.
At the end of February, Russia and Italy amended their bilateral agreement and to add more designated carriers on Moscow-FCO and Moscow-MXP routes. A decision on which Russian carriers can operate the Italian routes will be made April 25.
