Southwest nears mechanic integration agreement

Southwest Airlines (SWA) mechanics, represented by Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Assn. and the AirTran Airways mechanics, represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, met Thursday in Dallas to continue negotiating a seniority integration agreement.
An integration agreement by the two groups was voted down in February.
“We’re really close, we’ve agreed on a roadmap … on how to merge the seniority list … I’m optimistic within the next few weeks we’ll have a resolution,” SWA SVP-technical operations Brian Hirshman told attendees at the Aviation Week MRO Americas conference in Dallas Thursday.
SWA is also beginning to convert AirTran planes to the SWA configuration. The first two aircraft conversions are underway with partner Aviation Technical Services (ATS), Hirschman said.
