Abu Dhabi takes region's top spot in global airport awards while Doha has top airport hotel

Abu Dhabi International Airport is rated the top Middle East airport in the annual 2012 World Airport Awards and is considered third best in the world in the 10-20 million passenger a year category
The UAE's capital airport was rated 18th overall. It was one of six MENA airports making the world's top 100. The ratings are developed from surveys with the travelling public.
During the awards held in Vienna, Abu Dhabi  was also certified as a 4-Star airport, which recognises the continued and ongoing improvement in facilities and service standards.
Dubai is rated at 26th, Istanbul's Ataturk at 57th; Bahrain at 58th; Doha 63rd and Cairo at 100th
H.E. Khalifa Al Mazroui, Chairman of ADAC, said: “ADAC is extremely proud and honoured that Abu Dhabi has become the first airport in the Middle East to increase its Skytrax rating to become a 4-star airport. These accolades acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the whole airport team and demonstrate its commitment to delivering excellence and top quality service that match the capital’s growing international reputation.
“ADAC is moving ahead with its plans for the development of Abu Dhabi International Airport infrastructure to support Abu Dhabi Vision 2030, and deliver efficient and quality services on a par with leading international airports enabling it to cater for the air transport needs of the Emirate and region for decades to come. Ranking in third place worldwide within the airport’s size category is a new milestone for the company in achieving its vision in becoming the world’s leading airports group” added Al Mazrouei.
Edward Plaisted, Chairman of SKYTRAX presented Eng. Ahmad Al Haddabi, Chief Operating Officer at ADAC, with the award at a ceremony held at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Vienna.
Incheon International Airport was named as the World's Best Airport. This is the second time that Incheon  has won the  award, the last time in 2009. "Looking across the entire survey, Incheon International Airport achieved top-5 finishes in eight out of ten eligible categories, which is a remarkable vote of confidence by airline travellers in standards being delivered at Incheon International Airport" said  Plaisted.
The awards covered the whole gamut of airport operations. Another award winner from the Middle East was the Rotana group of hotels whose Oryx Rotana hotel won the best airport hotel in the Middle East award
Commenting on the awards, industry analyst Saj Ahmad said:  Abu Dhabi has quickly become a paragon for airport development in the GCC and this is reflected in the award for best airport. Much of this award is equally attributable to the expansion of Etihad Airways and its continued leverage of its position as the UAE capital to lure in ever-growing passenger numbers. And with a new multi-billion dollar airport growth plans with a new terminal, Abu Dhabi International Airport is rapidly becoming a big global gateway that has the potential to rival its neighbour, Dubai International Airport."
