EgyptAir (MS) is considering replacing its Boeing 777 and Airbus A330 fleet between 2020-2025, MS chairman and CEO Hossam Kamal told ATW in Taipei last week.
He said the airline is considering the 787 and the A350. “Our negotiation plan will be within the next two years,” he said.
MS, which has 79 aircraft in operation, is also eyeing replacing its older A320s, possibly with the A320neo. “At a first stage we would need three to five aircraft, for stage number two, up to 10 [aircraft],” he said.
MS is expecting delivery of two 737-800s in July and August, increasing its fleet to 20 of the type. The airline is expecting delivery of one new A330-300 in 2014, increasing its fleet to five of the type.
MS is in the process of phasing out four 777-200ERs and three A340-200s. “Selling these airplanes at this time of economic downturn is a big problem. But we are in good talks [to sell the aircraft],” Kamal said. MS has also grounded two of its four 737-500s.
