Jetstar Japan takes delivery of first A320

Qantas Group’s new low-cost subsidiary (LCC) Jetstar Japan (GK) has taken delivery of its first Airbus A320, as the Japanese LCC prepares to launch domestic services July 3, several months ahead of schedule. “The first aircraft will arrive by the end of this week and the next two in July,” an Airbus official told.
The all-economy aircraft can carry 180 passengers.
The carrier, which will be based at Tokyo Narita (NRT), is on track to be the first LCC to fly on domestic routes from Tokyo. It plans to start commercial services in July operating from Narita to Kansai, Fukuoka, Sapporo and Okinawa with an initial fleet of three aircraft. “The carrier will start international services in 2013,” the Airbus official said. Its fleet is expected to grow to 24 aircraft within three years.
“We aim to become the number one LCC in the Japanese market, and the A320 will help us achieve our goals,” GK president Miyuki Suzuki said in a statement.
