Chile-based LAN Airlines said its first Boeing 787 entered final body join Tuesday at Boeing’s final assembly factory in Everett, Washington state. LAN, which will take delivery of its first aircraft this year, will be the first Latin American carrier to operate the 787. It will be powered by a Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine.
According to LAN, the next steps include painting, installing the cabin’s interior and final testing before delivery toward the end of 2012.
The carrier expects to receive a total of 32 787s over10 years, an investment it values at $3.5 billion. It has named Santiago, Buenos Aires, Lima, Los Angeles, Madrid and Frankfurt as the first cities it will serve during the initial year of operations.
