Russian Federal Air Transport Agency Rosaviatsia announced it will spend RUB219.4 million ($7.2 million) to subsidize five carriers that service Kaliningrad (KGD)–Moscow and KGD–St. Petersburg routes. The program runs through Sept. 15.
Aviation authorities signed contracts with five carriers that take part in the program—Aeroflot, Rossiya Airline, S7 Airlines, UTair and Ak Bars Aero.
Last year, the government spent RUB138 million to subsidize these routes.
Kaliningrad is a Russian exclave situated on the west of the country and does not border the main territory. It is surrounded by Poland and Lithuania.
