Wizz Air doubles fleet at Budapest

Hungarian-based Wizz Air (W6) has doubled its fleet at Budapest Ferihegy International (BUD) to six Airbus A320s in less than three months.
The carrier, which announced it would invest HUF25 billion ($100 million) into expanding its Budapest operations after state-owned Malev Hungarian Airlines ceased operations in February, will offer flights to 32 destinations from BUD during this summer. It is planning 22 routes for the winter schedule, up from 16 last year.
W6 in December will launch 2X-weekly Debrecen (DBE)-Eindhoven and 2X-weekly DBE-Milan Malpensa services, where it will create 100 additional jobs.
The carrier closed the financial year March 31 in “solid financial position” and will continue double-digit growth in the coming fiscal year, it said. No more financial details were given.
During the last fiscal year, W6 carried more than 11 million passengers, 1.3 million of which were on routes to/from Budapest. It achieved an average load factor of 85% across its network.
