FAA issues type certificate for GE-powered 787-8


Boeing received an amended FAA type certificate Tuesday for GE Aviation GEnx –powered 787-8s.
“This milestone completes the certification of the 787-8 airplane, and allows airlines to now operate the GE engine-powered 787 with both the baseline Block 4 engine and the PIP1 engine upgrade," said VP and chief project engineer-787 program Mike Sinnett.
JAL will be the first airline customer to take delivery of a GEnx-powered 787.
Initial type certification of the 787 with Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines took place in August 2011.
