Delta strengthens relations with Russia’s Aeroflot

Delta Air Lines (DL) and Russia’s Aeroflot (SU) are strengthening relations due to a codeshare agreement reached at the end of 2011. The codeshare, which was in response to growing competition on Russian-US routes, connects SU flights from Moscow Sheremetyevo (SVO) to JFK, and SVO-Washington Dulles (IAD) and SVO-Los Angeles (LAX).
DL sells connecting service on SU flights to Russian destinations including Kaliningrad, Krasnodar, Samara, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk and Ekaterinburg. SU sells connecting service on DL flights on US routes including Atlanta, Orlando, Miami, Las Vegas, LAX, San Francisco, Denver, Boston, Washington National and Chicago.
Perry Cantarutti, DL senior vice president Europe, Middle East, Africa and India, said in 2011 DL carried around 90,000 passengers on its Russia-US routes. Load factor was a little over 80% for the year. The carrier operates daily flights between SVO and JFK.
According to Cantarutti, by the end of January around 3,000 passengers used codeshare opportunities.
