Hundreds of flights canceled at Frankfurt Airport as strike escalates

Nearly 500 flights scheduled for Thursday and Friday were canceled at Frankfurt Airport as a strike by 200 apron workers, represented by the GdF union, went into the second day.

Airport operator Fraport reported that 298 out of 1,082 flights scheduled for Friday were canceled and 172 flights were canceled Thursday.
“We had to cancel today about 250 flights on Friday,” a Lufthansa spokesperson confirmed to ATW, adding that further days of possible strike action could continue into next week.
“If we have to face a 24-hour strike, Fraport will lose about €5 million [for] every strike day,” a Fraport manager told German TV ZDF.
A GdF union spokesperson said no strike action is planned for the weekend.
Fraport said it was willing to return to the negotiating table and is waiting for the possibility of more talks. Fraport has said the demands for pay increases of up to 70% are "irresponsible."
