Sharjah to mount new challenge on Dubai's executive aviation market

Sharjah Airport is set to announce a new deal with private aviation specialist Gama Aviation to increase the business and aviation activities at the emriate's main airport.

Gama set up a base in Sharjah six years ago and has grown its business dramatically. It is understood   that Gama and the airport authority have signed a deal to develop a new FBO and executive aviation handling service from the airport.
Although just 20 minutes drive from Dubai's main international airport, the Sharjah airport does not suffer the capacity constraints of its near neighbour. In recent years business aviation operators have seen an increasing number of   delays due to airport’s rapid growth.
According to business aviation observers, Dubai seems like to transfer much of its executive traffic operations to the new Maktoum International Airport at Jebel Ali. Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi has been developing its own specialist executive airport at   the former military base at Al Bateen close to the UAE capital’s centre.
By investing in business aviation infrastructure, Sharjah could benefit from those operators who want to remain – or bring passengers – to the Deira side of Dubai.
Gama is to become to sole provider of execuive aircraft handling at Sharjah with effect from next week and an announcement about a new FBO is expected shortly afterwards.
Gama was unable to comment about the situation.
