Hong Kong Airlines to introduce all-premium flights in March

Hong Kong Airlines (HX) will launch all-premium class flights on the Hong Kong-London Gatwick route with Airbus A330-200s from March 7, becoming the first Chinese carrier to offer an all-premium service.

HX assistant president Wang Yankun said the carrier will use three new A330-200s, with cabin configurations of 34 first- and 82 business-class seats, to operate the service.
The Hong Kong-based carrier, launched in 2006, operates a fleet of around 18 aircraft with its sister airline, Hong Kong Express Airways, on over 30 routes. It is expected to take delivery of more than 50 aircraft by 2015 and is planning to launch an IPO to fund the fleet expansion.
Local industry analysts said HX will face tough challenges on its all-premium flights because of competition from Cathay Pacific Airways and British Airways, as well as the gloomy global economic forecast.
